UIL – Vault Inspection

The United Illuminating Company commissioned EnviroMed with the goal to perform inspections of more than 200 vaults around New Haven County. We assessed the sites to see if there were hazardous materials that could be encountered in the vaults. The surveys and inspections were done for materials including PCBs, asbestos, and lead. Detailed drawings were provided as part of the inspection to document location and presence of any materials that might be encountered when entering the vaults. These studies will be use for the future planning purposes by U.I. in order to upgrade customer vaults as necessary.

EnviroMed 24 Hour On Call Emergency Service

Utility companies must maintain 24-hour continuous service to their client. Therefore EnviroMed developed emergency respond system to provide immediate mobilization, staffing and communication systems. EnviroMed developed internal a communication system to respond to any client emergency by assigned telephone numbers and personnel. This list was provided to the client as their emergency response contact matrix.

Efficiency: The assigned staffing for all off hours were cross trained for asbestos, lead, PCBs and other Hazardous materials which will allow for maximum flexibility in responding to emergencies. Our on call monitors can sample and then analyze the asbestos fiber sample at the site location.

Sampling Equipment: The individual staff have at all times the required field sampling equipment including: four gas meters, PID, data ram, air sampling pumps, sampling media, microscope and noise meter.

Safety Equipment: All on call staff have specific safety equipment including: flame resistant (FR) clothing, hard hats, safety vest, Tyvek suit, safety glasses with side shields, safety shoes rated EH for electrical hazard, full body harness with retrieval line attached at the back of the body section at the center or higher location and respirators with approved filters and cartridges.

The accommodations provided by EnviroMed insured quick emergency response and reduced the time associated with an electrical or gas outage. EnviroMed Services is a valued partner in assisting UIL in providing the highest quality services to their customers. EnviroMed Services performed Environmental Inspections of approximately 100 to 120 customer vaults owned by UIL.
